Russett Bramley comprises two of ten luxury lodges in the peaceful, idyllic surroundings of Constable Country, near Stoke by Nayland in Suffolk. Riverside Cottage is the end terrace of a converted watermill on the banks of the River Waveney on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Set in the heart of a conservation area, with river frontage and fishing rights, Riverside Cottage is the perfect holiday location for a secluded, romantic retreat. It also makes an ideal cycling base, situated on National Cycle Network route 30. It has a private jetty, a four person rowing boat and a small, private island accessed via a wooden bridge. Visitors to the garden include swans, deer, kingfishers, ducks and numerous other bird species. Fish include chubb, pike and perch. The river runs the full length of the garden and along the bank are bulrushes, water iris, lilies and reeds. There is a public house within walking distance, The Old Kings Head with origins dating back to the 14th century incorporates a bar and restaurant.
Convenient shopping is available in the busy market town of Harleston, three miles away. The Heritage Coast is within easy reach and includes the resorts of Southwold and Felixstowe. It is ideally situated for exploring Constable and Gainsborough Country, Framlingham Castle, Bigod Castle in Bungay, the Norfolk Broads or trawling antique markets and local potteries. Pakenham boasts the only working water mill in Suffolk and Bressingham Steam Museum and Banham Zoo are 20 minutes away. Long Meadow Barn is a charming, spacious detached converted barn set in the rural village of Down St. Mary. It is the ideal safe rural retreat set within its own garden and yet within easy access of Crediton or Exeter. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, cycling and golf with Waterbridge Golf Course less than a mile away. The Two Moors Way runs through Down St. Mary as do a variety of public footpaths. Fishing is also available locally.
There are numerous local country pubs in the surrounding villages, the nearest being The Devonshire Dumpling 1/2 mile away, a short stroll, which serves excellent food. Copplestone, a mile away, features a general store and post office where provisions can be bought. Crediton is seven miles away where there are Indian restaurants which provide home delivery, Chinese takeaways, a leisure centre with public swimming pool, a large Tesco and a smaller Morrisons.
The village of Zeal Monachorum, a couple of miles away, boasts a pub and a small leisure centre that offers an indoor swimming pool, as well as an extensive renowned indoor and outdoor children's play area suitable for all ages which is perfect for those rainy days, skittles, snooker, all of which will entertain the whole family, as well as good food.
Dartmoor National Park is approximately 10 miles away with breathtaking scenery where you can walk and explore the countryside and heritage sites. There are also National Trust properties to explore within easy driving distance such as Castle Drogo, Rosemoor and Knighthayes which offer beautiful gardens and an interesting house. From Morchard Road station,which is 1/2 mile away, the Tarka Line trains run offering lots of walks from a number of stations en route.
Within a short 40 minute drive, there are gorgeous sandy beaches on both the north and south coasts offering sailing, excellent surfing and other water sports. Alternatively, the historic cathedral city of Exeter, 5 miles away, boasts fantastic shopping and numerous excellent restaurants. Sightseeing tours are available or you can explore the Cathedral, underground passages or visit the Northcott Theatre or cinema.

Accommodation overview: Stonecroft is a traditional style, 18th century stone Yorkshire Dales cottage, quietly situated in a cobbled lane, just off the Market Square in the historic Wensleydale town of Middleham. The imposing castle is a short distance away and all the towns amenities are within a minutes walk where you will find a regular bus service. Although recently totally renovated to a high standard, Stonecroft still retains much character and many original features, including exposed beams in all rooms and exposed stonework to parts of the kitchen. Situated in an elevated position overlooking the valley and surrounded by farmland, Bittadon Cottage is to be found in the pretty hamlet of Bittadon, just eight miles from the beach at Woolacombe.
It is a modernised 19th Century semi-detached stone property approached up a narrow country lane leading to a gravel drive with steps down to a pretty courtyard, and set within a terraced garden with summerhouse and pathway leading down to a large spring-fed pond, a haven for the local wildlife. The pond area is accessed only through a locked gate.
The Blue Flag beach at Woolacombe provides a great day out for the family; and Exmoor with its beautiful walks is a mere 10 miles away. Good food at Muddiford and Prixford is just a short drive and well worth a visit. Other attractions include surfing, golf, fishing, walking and horse-riding.
