This detached house, is set on the edge of a small woods, surrounded by the beautiful countryside off a small country lane - this is is a real cottage hideaway! The house which is a traditional Cotswold style with good size rooms (rather than open plan) which give it a sense 'swallows-and-amazons'! We say this is as remote as you can get from the twentieth century in Southern England! Woodwells is a picturesque farmhouse built in 1877, set in the midst of a sunny clearing of wooded hills and at the end of the meadows. Accommodation overview: A semi detached granite cottage of considerable character, 2 miles from Lamorna Cove, a few minutes drive from the famous open air Minack cliff theatre and only a hundred yards from the historic church, village pub and the two general stores that comprise the nucleus of the little village of St Buryan.
The front entrance is through a tiny walled patio garden with flowering shrubs. From here the front door opens through a conservatory with an inner door into a long low beamed sitting / dining room with exposed granite walls, small windows, an Inglenook fireplace. There is a neat kitchen area also with low beams. At the rear of the cottage an entrance / cloaks hall has an adjacent bathroom / W.C. with shower over the bath.
Stairs go up directly from the sitting area to two bedrooms, one open to the landing, each with a double bed, one being king size. The limited space makes it unsuitable for children under 8 and large dogs. Parking on the road outside is unrestricted. Lands End is 5.5 miles.
Please note: Bed linen is available at £10 per bed, per week payable on arrival. Towels are not available.

Thornwell Cottage is a 200 year old detached Grade II listed property with flagstone floors, exposed beams, extensive private gardens, plum orchard and a paved sitting / dining area. Views across the River Dart can be enjoyed from the lawns and bedrooms.The property is on a quiet single track lane just 75m level walk from the free car park, and is situated in the centre of Dittisham, one of the most charming and unspoilt villages in the South Hams.
The picturesque waterfront, ancient church, two friendly pubs, well stocked village shop and riverside cafe are all within easy distance of Thornwell Cottage, making it the ideal holiday haven at any time of year. Ring a bell at the waters edge just minutes from the property to summon the ferry to Greenway, former home of Agatha Christie, (see National Trust website), hire a boat to explore the river yourself, or take the passenger boat from Dittisham to historic Dartmouth with its wonderful range of shops and restaurants.
From Dartmouth a variety of boat trips are available including Dartmouth Castle, Salcombe and the lovely town of Totnes, or hop across on the ferry to Kingswear and take the delightful steam train journey to Paignton. Blackpool Sands, a Blue Flag Award-winning beach is within eight miles and features the Venus Beach Cafe which serves organic and locally produced food.
Dittisham is a popular crabbing hotspot for old and young alike so get your crabbing lines and bait from the Anchorstone cafe and grab a crab or two! The crabs don't mind - they know they'll be scuttling home to the riverbed at the end of the day.
Backed by green hills and woodlands, walkers are well catered for with excellent walking opportunities, including the Dart Valley Trail which runs through the village close by the property.
PARKING: Proceed along The Level and turn left into The Level Car Park (Free parking). Proceeding on foot, Thornwell Cottage is a very short walk away; turn left out of the car park and go straight along the lane for approx. 60 metres then look for a high white iron gate set in to a stone wall on your right hand side. The property is a modernised spacious, self-contained wing of an important Grade II listed manor house, close to the west bank of the river Severn on the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border. It has been redecorated to a very high standard and is furnished throughout with antique furniture and decorative prints.
Parts of the house date back to the 15th century, including the Medieval Great Hall built by the Abbots of the Benedictine monastery at Tewkesbury (four miles). Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn are believed to have stayed here in July 1535. The present owners are the eighth generation to own the manor and its estate. The wing was added circa 1890 by the Arts and Crafts architect, Philip Webb.
Cheltenham with its racecourse, literary and music festivals and shops is 12 miles away. The cities of Gloucester and Worcester with their museums and cathedrals are both 25 minutes away. The nearby Malvern Hills and Bredon Hill provide excellent walking opportunities. There are several historic houses to be visited locally, among which Eastnor Castle (Ledbury) and Sudeley Castle (Winchcombe) are prominent. The Cotswolds' western escarpment with the gardens of Kiftsgate and Hidcote and the picturesque town of Broadway are easily reached. There are 18-hole golf courses at Puckrup (six miles) and Tewkesbury Park (five miles). The nearest pub is the approximately half a mile from the property and serves traditional food and ales. Owl House is an old shippen, providing holiday accommodation in the quiet hamlet of Treneague in Cornwall.
It stands in the grounds of a 17th century cottage but is not overlooked. French windows lead to a secluded terrace with fig trees and yuccas, enclosed by dry stonework. With only the sound of owls at night it is a tranquil place.
There are walks from the front door, and glimpses of nuthatches and woodpeckers.
Minutes away in Wadebridge, bikes can be hired for cycling to Padstow, Rick Stein's restaurants, and wonderful coastal walks.
Swimming and surfing, both sides of the estuary, are within 20 minutes by car. Many other attractions - The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and Tate St Ives are within easy reach. In autumn and winter, the white sandy beaches are deserted, and walkers and birdwatchers have the woods and sea walks to themselves.
