Oystercatcher is nestled in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside and is approached via a tree lined avenue. This beautifully presented single storey mews style property is set within the prestigious development of a late Georgian rectory, with communal woodland and grounds extending to approximately to 2.5 acres.
Built within the pretty Victorian walled garden of the Old Vicarage, this cottage has been named after a resident oystercatcher who is often spotted striding the garden walls. The two larger bedrooms have direct access into these gardens and the single room has wonderful views across the meadows and woodlands. The good sized private enclosed rear garden has an outdoor dining area and barbecue and is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the tranquil meadow views with its many visitors, such as oystercatchers, barn owls, mallard, pheasants, French and English partridge, curlew, graylag and barnacle geese and various plover and waders on the marshland beyond.
A short walk will bring you to the centre of this medieval village with its quaint tea rooms, art galleries, antique shops, food pubs and a handmade chocolate and ice cream shop. There are also many places of historic interest, various cycle routes and an abundance of scenic walking, including the 20 acre grounds of Walsingham Abbey, especially beautiful when the snow drops have opened. There are award winning places to eat, such as the Norfolk Riddle restaurant, its adjoining fish and chip shop and the Great Walsingham Barns, serving award winning pies and amazing roast diners. There is also a renowned local farm shop and butcher supplying excellent home grown produce.
This is an ideal location to soak up the relaxing atmosphere of this country cottage retreat or to use it as a base for exploring some of the many North Norfolk attractions such as the seal trips and bird watching at Blakeney, golf at Brancaster, sailing at Morston, shopping in the Georgian towns of Holt and Burnham Market or enjoying the Thursford Collection of steam engines, traditional fun fair rides and Christmas Spectacular Show - or just enjoying easy access to miles of award winning beaches, RSPB nature reserves and National Trust Houses and gardens.

Accommodation overview: The Old Rectory details
The Old Rectory in Norfolk is a luxury self catering holiday home which stands in its own parkland next to the church surrounded by open countryside, a mile from North Tuddenham. The original rectory dated from the 16th century and the poet William Cowper stayed here when he first came to Norfolk. It was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, younger brother of the architect of the Houses of Parliament, who designed it himself. The holiday home has been refurbished to provide a luxury self catering venue for family gatherings. It is easily accessed from the A47, half a mile away.
There is a pub in the village of North Tuddenham. Situated in the upspoilt rural centre of Norfolk there is much to see and do as it is ideally located for exploring the coast (35 minutes' drive), the Broads (30 minutes) and the historic city of Norwich (20 minutes). The Old Rectory is set in idyllic surroundings with grounds covering 12.5 acres. There are large areas of lawn interspersed with mature shrubs and trees. The grounds also include a west facing terrace, ideal for summer barbecues, a pond (this has been fenced making it childproof), and a children's football area with two goals. The Old Rectory is an ideal outdoor holiday break with its own wood: a pathway marked by an avenue of yew trees which leads to clearings planted with bluebells, foxgloves and primroses and ideal picnic spots. There is table tennis in the games room and an all weather tennis court in the grounds. There are riding stables nearby. Once the home of William Talman, architect of Chatsworth and Master of the Works to the court of James I, Felmingham Hall was built in 1569 and is one of the earliest examples of Elizabethan architecture in North Norfolk.
It stands in unspoilt countryside not far from the National Trust's Blickling and Felbrigg estates, and is an ideal location from which to explore the renowned coastline of Norfolk, only 20 minutes by car. The famous Weaver's Way network of country walks is a 10-minute stroll from the barns and the east coast just 15 minutes by car. From Felmingham the picturesque Georgian towns of Holt and Burnham Market, the seaside villages of Cley (with its famous bird sanctuaries) and Stiffkey, and the traditional English resort towns of Cromer (with its Hotel de Paris), Sheringham and Wells are all within easy reach by car and offer everything from delicatessens and antique shops to restaurants and theatres.
Dovecote, the smaller unit in this award-winning conversion of an 18th century barn, features a deceptively spacious reception room with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, dining area with double doors. The private south-facing walled garden looks out onto the dovecote, from which it takes its name, and in spring/summer over a wild flower meadow to the west. For children there is a wigwam and dressing-up box.

The Holkham Estate, beach and the bustling market town of Burnham Market are a short drive. Many popular coastal villages are readily accessible offering seal and wildlife spotting trips, opportunities for windsurfing, kayaking and sailing.
