Dovecote in Felmingham, Norfolk, East England

Dovecote, Felmingham, Norfolk, East England

Sleeps 6
Weekly prices from £582

Self catering accommodation in Felmingham sleeps 6.

Features include: • Garden • Internet Access • Open Fire or Woodburning Stove • Games Room • Cottage Sleeps 6

Accommodation overview:

Dovecote details

Privately situated within the grounds of Felmingham Hall, a fine Grade II listed Elizabethan manor house, are Felmingham Hall Barns: two award-winning holiday properties with a stunning 18th century barn conversion. Individually Longbarn and Dovecote can cater for parties of up to 10 or six respectively. Quietly located at the end of a long drive off a country lane, the barns stand within their own south-facing walled garden, in a tranquil setting, surrounded by farmland. With a private courtyard with covered parking for five cars to the front, the barns are approached via a grape and laburnum covered pergola.
Once the home of William Talman, architect of Chatsworth and Master of the Works to the court of James I, Felmingham Hall was built in 1569 and is one of the earliest examples of Elizabethan architecture in North Norfolk.

It stands in unspoilt countryside not far from the National Trust's Blickling and Felbrigg estates, and is an ideal location from which to explore the renowned coastline of Norfolk, only 20 minutes by car. The famous Weaver's Way network of country walks is a 10-minute stroll from the barns and the east coast just 15 minutes by car. From Felmingham the picturesque Georgian towns of Holt and Burnham Market, the seaside villages of Cley (with its famous bird sanctuaries) and Stiffkey, and the traditional English resort towns of Cromer (with its Hotel de Paris), Sheringham and Wells are all within easy reach by car and offer everything from delicatessens and antique shops to restaurants and theatres.

Dovecote, the smaller unit in this award-winning conversion of an 18th century barn, features a deceptively spacious reception room with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, dining area with double doors. The private south-facing walled garden looks out onto the dovecote, from which it takes its name, and in spring/summer over a wild flower meadow to the west. For children there is a wigwam and dressing-up box.

The Link (with accommodation for two guests) is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwiches. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is the location of the RNLI life boat station which is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets there - try to catch your own Cromer crab from the pier! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.

Taking the coastal path in the other direction is a short walk into Overstrand where you can then eat in the White Horse restaurant/bar.

The Link makes a perfect Norfolk retreat for golfing breaks. The property is adjacent to the Royal Cromer 18-hole golf course where non-members with a handicap are welcome.

This lighthouse does not have a fog signal.

Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.

Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

A high wall totally encloses the picturesque rear garden and patio area of this self catering luxury rental house. The house was originally built for the town's wheat merchant, who, it was rumoured, was also a smuggler. The beautiful sandy beach, with its pine trees, sand dunes and colourful beach huts, can be reached using a miniature steam train from the harbour, or enjoy the quay with its active fishing fleet and sailing club. The Normans makes an ideal outdoor holiday break as both Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Woods are one of the UK's designated Nature Reserves, and walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy the North Norfolk Coastal Path, creeks and marshes.
