Accommodation overview: Valonia details
In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Valonia Cottage at Cromer Lighthouse The original Cromer Lighthouse was built in 1680 but the present lighthouse, a white octagonal tower, was built in 1833 and converted to automatic operation in 1990.
Valonia Cottage (with accommodation for six guests) is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwich. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families, and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is home to the Cromer RNLI life boat - the station is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets on the pier - try to catch your own Cromer crab! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.
Taking the coastal path in the other direction is a short walk into Overstrand where you can then eat in the White Horse restaurant/bar.
Valonia makes a perfect Norfolk retreat for golfing breaks. The property is adjacent to the Royal Cromer 18-hole golf course where non-members with a handicap are welcome.
This lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Accommodation overview: The Old Rectory and Coach House details
The Old Rectory and the Coach House are self catering holiday cottages which stand in their own parkland next to the church surrounded by open countryside, a mile from North Tuddenham in Norfolk. The original rectory dated from the 16th century and the poet William Cooper stayed here when he first came to Norfolk. It was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, younger brother of the architect of the Houses of Parliament, who designed it himself. The luxury accommodation has been refurbished to provide a high quality venue for family gatherings. It is easily accessed from the A47, half a mile away.
There is a pub in the Norfolk village of North Tuddenham. Situated in the unspoilt rural centre of Norfolk it is ideally located for exploring the coast (35 minutes' drive), the Broads (30 minutes) and the historic city of Norwich (20 minutes). The Old Rectory is set in idyllic surroundings with grounds covering 12.5 acres. There are large areas of lawn interspersed with mature shrubs and trees. The grounds also include a west facing terrace, ideal for summer barbecues, a pond (this has been fenced making it childproof), and a children's football area with two goals. An ideal outdoor holiday break, The Rectory has its own wood: a pathway marked by an avenue of yew trees leads to clearings planted with bluebells, foxgloves and primroses which make ideal picnic spots. There is table tennis in the games room and an all weather tennis court in the grounds. There are riding stables nearby. Clay and game shooting can be arranged with prior notice, as can fishing. The Coach House is situated in a courtyard through original 10' high wrought iron gates next to the Old Rectory.
It can be rented with the Old Rectory should additional accommodation be required. It has been renovated to a very high standard but retains its character with exposed beams and brickwork. There are lovely views over the main lawn and open countryside.
Catering can be arranged through 'Toast' on 07900 925907 / 01508 491895

Self catering accommodation in Wells-next-the-Sea sleeps 10.
Features include: • Garden • Internet Access • Open Fire or Woodburning Stove • Close to the Beach • Pub near by • Cottage Sleeps 10
Accommodation overview: Laylands details
Laylands Cottage was the first building on the road to Wells-next-the-Sea and one of the earliest buildings in the 15th century town. It was originally built as an inn offering shelter to the drovers from the north bringing cattle and sheep to catch boats to the continent. The old settle where the drovers drank their ale still remains in the corner of the house.
Laylands Cottage enjoys an elevated position with views over a green belt conservation area. Not far ever, an old horse grazes in the field looking out beyond towards the Pinewoods and Wells beach. The house is detached with secluded front and rear gardens. The large rear garden, which is walled and south facing, has mature fruit trees and a large patio, perfect for outside dining.
The house is situated just a five minute walk from the harbour and the sea. Wells beach, with its famous white sand dunes and beach huts, is easily reached by a 15-minute walk through the pine wood. Laylands Cottage has recently undergone a complete renovation which is sympathetic to the historic heart of the house, but also encompasses all the conveniences for modern living.
Wells-next-the-Sea is an atmospheric Norfolk town set behind a small working harbour on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. The town has a maze of narrow streets, old alleys and yards, filled with an eclectic mix of shops, pubs and cafes and there are many listed and interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings.
Wells-next-the-Sea is within one of the UK's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the heart of the North Norfolk Heritage Coast. The beautiful award-winning sandy beach, with its pine trees, sand dunes and colourful beach huts, can be reached using a miniature steam train from the harbour or enjoy the quay with its active fishing and sailing club. Laylands Cottage is an ideal outdoor holiday break as both Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Woods are one of the UK's designated Nature Reserves, and walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy the North Norfolk Coastal Path, creeks and marshes. Should catering be of interest it can be arranged through Julie Abbs Catering on 01328 701939 / 07798 818448 or visit www.julieabbs.co.uk
