Accommodation overview: Conveniently situated between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, Holly Cottage nestles in a semi rural position on the outskirts of the village of Girsby and has been recently converted to a particularly high standard. The cottage is adjacent to the owners home and livery yard and has been stylishly furnished and decorated, enjoying the warmth and comfort of a wood burning stove in the lounge which is open to the eaves and from where a beautiful spiral chandelier takes pride of place! The lounge opens up to a superb tasteful kitchen with adjacent dining area featuring a large chunky table and very comfortable leather dining chairs. Hillside Farm is a detached farmhouse set in beautiful countryside in the heart of the North York Moors National park with stunning views of the sea and Whitby a few miles away. It acts as the lodge of an actively managed moorland estate.
The property is two miles from Sleights where there is a pub and hotel (both of which serve food), a fish and chip restaurant, a very good butcher/delicatessen, general store (usually open until 10pm) and local bakers.
The Yorkshire Esk, located approximately 2 miles away, is one of the most prolific sea trout rivers in England and is the only salmon river between London and the Tees. Salmon and Sea Trout fishing is available on the best beat by special prior arrangement with the owner (who also owns Hillside Farmhouse) from 6th April to 31st October.
The area benefits from exceptional walking with the Coast to Coast and Cleveland Way paths nearby. Hillside Farm is a good base from which to enjoy the Yorkshire coast with Whitby, Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay all nearby. Mountain biking at nearby Dalby Forest is world class. Grosmont, the North York Moors Railway and Goathland (of 'Heartbeat' fame) are all within easy reach.

Lonsdale House occupies an enviable position in the middle of the village a couple of minutes walk from the well stocked shop, two pubs offering delicious home cooked food and a cafe/ fish and chip shop, yet set back from the road and offering a quiet and private place in which to relax.
The accommodation is sunny and spacious and the interior tastefully furnished to a high standard. The extensive garden offers views across the valley and both sunny and shaded areas. There is a seasonal pond in the garden - babes in arms welcome but sorry no children under 5 years.
Situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, and just north of the Howardian Hills AONB, Ampleforth is surrounded by beautiful countryside so there are plenty of scenic walks and cycling routes from the front door of the property. Visitors can take advantage of the sports centre facilities at nearby Ampleforth College and within a 5 mile radius there is fishing, pony trekking, golf, cycle hire and the newly opened cycle trails from Sutton Bank National Park Centre. A 5 minute drive brings you to the pretty market town of Helmsley with its Castle, Walled Garden, Duncombe Park and a wide range of shops, hotels/pubs and restaurants. Also close at hand are the abbeys of Rievaulx and Byland and the National Trust properties of Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terraces and Temples. Further afield Whitby on the coast, Goathland and Pickering in the National Park, Masham, Ripon and Harrogate to the west, Castle Howard and Scampston Walled Garden to the east and York to the south are all within easy reach.
