October Cottage is situated in the very pretty Parish of Chalford which lies four miles south east of Stroud on the north side of the River Frome. Situated on the side of Chalford Hill the cottage is approached via a steep narrow lane. In this part of Gloucestershire the Cotswolds are cut by deep gorge-like valleys opening out westward into the Severn plain.
The village has a store where you can purchase fresh produce, the Lavender Bake House coffee shop, a Tesco Express and a fish and chip shop. There are many excellent pubs and restaurants in the area. The award winning Farmers Market at Stroud is on Saturdays.
Minchinhampton has two golf courses which are open to visitors (two miles), Nailsworth ( four miles), the market towns of Tetbury (five) miles and Cirencester (10 miles).

From Lower Swell, you can continue along the public footpaths for a further two miles, to the charming and much photographed villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter.

Poppy's Cottage, one of four terraced cottages, is situated in a peaceful no-through lane in Baunton village overlooking the picturesque church of St Mary Magdalene. Recently renovated to a very high standard this charming traditional cottage offers an ideal base for exploring the numerous attractions nearby.
The historic town of Cirencester, the capital of the Cotswolds, is a five minute drive away (30 minutes on foot) and has many unique shops and restaurants. Cheltenham, a 20 minute drive, hosts many festivals and the Gold Cup. For walkers there is a wide choice of walks, including the well known Monarch's Way right on the door step.
Other points of interest within easy reach include Westonbirt Arboretum (20 miles), Tetbury (15 miles), Bibury (10 miles), Slad Valley (10 miles) and the Royal Agricultural College (five miles). There are many easily accessible country pubs. An efficient local hire company delivers and collects bicycles direct to the door seven days a week. There are numerous local riding facilities and all types of water sports at South Cerney Water Park (five miles).
Baunton is a quiet, pretty Cotswold village two miles north of Cirencester and approximately one and three quarter hours by car from Central London along the M4 and A419. There is a fast and regular train service from Paddington to Kemble Station, 10 minutes by taxi from Baunton.
Although the village has no pub or shop there is extensive shopping in Cirencester, and the area is served by a wide choice of country and town-centre pubs and restaurants, each with its own character and charm. A popular local country pub, 40 minutes on foot from the cottage along country paths, is the Bathhurst Arms, with buckets of atmosphere and serving good food.
There are extensive opportunities for walking in and around Baunton and for all types of outdoor sports in the immediate locality. South Cerney,10 minutes by car, is a centre for all types of water sports. There are numerous riding schools within easy reach. Talland House is a world-class riding centre, 10 minutes by car from the cottage. Polo is also available at the Cirencester Polo Club (five minutes) and the Long Dole Polo Club (15 minutes).
