Self catering accommodation in Downderry sleeps 5.
Features include: • Garden • Open Fire or Woodburning Stove • Short Breaks • Cottage Sleeps 5
Accommodation overview: With uninterrupted panoramic sea views along the coast from Rame Head in the east to Dodman Point westwards, this cosy little single storey cottage stands just 50 yards above Downderry beach. One of a small row built for the old coastguard station in the early 1800s, the cottage retains much of its simple period character with white washed walls and a delabole slate roof.
The terrace has a few steps leading up to the gated entrance at one end with a right of way fronting the cottages, leading to the stable door which opens to a flagstoned entrance porch. The original storm doors lead to an inner hallway and to one side is a sitting room with a sanded wood floor, comfortable leather seating facing the stone and slate fireplace and stunning sea views from the bay window right across to the Eddystone lighthouse in the distance.
Leading off the lounge at the rear are two modest sized bedrooms, a double and one with 2ft 6in bunk beds, both with wash basins. On the opposite side of the hall, there is a newly fitted kitchen/dining room with modern units, a pine dining table with chairs and a spectacular view far out to sea. To the rear of the kitchen, there is a further double bedded room with a wash basin and a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and electric shower over the bath.
The back door leads out from the bathroom to a small sheltered courtyard with a rotary line and a useful laundry room with a 2nd sink. The level front lawn extends to the edge of the low cliffs with delightful views overlooking the sea and beach below. There are boundary fences between the cottages (although young children will need to be supervised) and a 3ft high sturdy wire fence on the seaward side. There is a private parking area for one large or two small cars parked end on end about 20 yards away.
The beach with sand and rock pools at low tide is just a minutes walk down the hill, and all the village amenities are very close at hand with a pub, local shops, post office and restaurant. Golf and diving are available in the area, and the village of Seaton is a 20 minute walk along the coast.
Please note: Bed linen is available at £6 per person per week & towels are available at £4 per person per week to be paid on arrival.
