Located in the heart of Cornwall, Ventonglidder is a truly idyllic hideaway at any time of year. It is a great base from which to explore Cornwall, close to the beautiful Roseland Peninsula and picturesque fishing villages and beaches of the south coast as well as the wilder Atlantic coast to the north. Ventonglidder is the perfect environment in which to relax and unwind or celebrate that special romantic occasion.
At the end of a private gated road our three spacious and luxuriously appointed detached cottages offer peaceful seclusion in a beautiful setting within natural woodland and all grass farmland. With stunning, uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside, St Clethers and Lower Gew sit either side of a natural pond and stream fed by water from an ancient holy well, whilst Little Hill nestles against the hillside nearby.

Wildlife is in abundance and there are numerous footpaths and winding country lanes to explore, lined with a glorious display of wild flowers throughout spring and summer.

Accommodation overview: Pelorus Cottage details
In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Pelorus Cottage at Trevose Head Lighthouse.
Pelorus (with accommodation for four guests) is one of four holiday cottages available at the lighthouse which is located on a headland between the sandy beaches of Harlyn and Constantine Bays, four miles west of Padstow. The Lighthouse was built in 1847, electrified in 1973 and automated in 1995. The site is not open to the public and the four cottages are sheltered beneath a headland and are 75' above the sea, accessed via a one-mile-long private road. Fine views out to sea and the chance to watch fishing boats coming in and out of Padstow.
The cottages are semi-detached, with the lighthouse positioned in the middle. At the front, there is a communal tarmac forecourt with parking. To the rear, on the sea side, there is a shared walled grass area which is fenced at the cliff edge. (In the interest of safety, it is recommended that guests do not use this space). The South West Coast path runs round the headland and on towards Padstow.
The picturesque fishing village of Padstow and its harbour is also home of chef Rick Stein's seafood restaurant ( book well ahead if you wish to secure a table), bistro and cafe. Harlyn Bay (on the road to Padstow in the lee of Trevose Head) offers surfing and a sheltered family beach with a wide crescent of yellow sand and rock pools, with safe swimming (lifeguard on duty in summer months). The Eden Project is a 30-minute drive away.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Just a few paces from the picturesque harbour and close to the shops, the renovated and comfortably furnished accommodation is on three floors with sea views over the neighbouring rooftops from the top two floors.
Entered directly from the street, half a dozen steep steps lead up to the front door which opens to a hallway with coat pegs. On this level there are also two double bedded rooms with pine bedroom furniture and partial views of the harbour and sea over the rooftops, the larger of the two with a vanity basin and cushioned window seat. A small doorway on the landing opens to a very steep narrow staircase with a rope hand rail and leads directly up to an attic room set under a low, sloping, beamed ceiling with comfortable seating and stunning views from a dormer window over the roofs to the attractive harbour and beyond to St Ives Bay. There are four portable heaters to make the cottage feel cosy at any time of the year.
It is possible to unload close by but parking is in any of the pay and display car parks within the town. Self catering accommodation in Millook sleeps 4.
Features include: • Garden • Pet friendly • Open Fire or Woodburning Stove • Close to the Beach • Short Breaks • Cottage Sleeps 4
Accommodation overview: A wonderful 17th Century character cottage, formerly a water millhouse, just yards from Millook beach, where sheer cliffs tower above the pebbled beach and small rock pools are revealed at low tide.
Set in a large grassy paddock with a stream running parallel to it, the front door opens into an entrance lobby with an adjacent simple kitchen and pantry area, and in one corner a 4 step ladder leads up to a cabin style children's bedroom with a little window overlooking the 38 ft mill wheel. Two steps up from the kitchen lead to a traditionally furnished cosy beamed living room with a large fireplace and remains of a cloam oven, simple white washed stone walls and a dining area with peaceful views over the garden.
To one side, a heavy carved door salvaged from a shipwreck in the 1800s leads to an additional smaller sitting room with comfortable seating and views of the sea. A bathroom W.C. with vanity basin and shower over bath can be reached via a few steps down from the living room, and an open tread irregularly shaped staircase leads directly up to the master attic bedroom with a 4ft 6inch double bed, a cross beamed ceiling, calming sea views and an extra single chair bed for alternative sleeping arrangements.
The renovated 3 ton mill wheel operates twice daily as an essential part of its preservation. The elderly or infirm may find the low curving beams, uneven floors and stairs a little difficult, and due to the proximity of the running water, toddlers will require supervision in the garden.
The nearest pub is 1.5 miles, and the spectacular sands of Widemouth Bay with a small grocery store are 2 miles away. Crackington Haven is about 5 miles and Bude 6 miles.
Please note: No TV reception. Not suitable for children under 8 or children/adults requiring supervision.
