Argus Cottage details

In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Argus Cottage at Pendeen Lighthouse. Pendeen Lighthouse lies six miles north of Land's End and two miles from St Just. The lighthouse was established in 1900, electrified in 1926 and automated in 1994.

Argus (with accommodation for three guests) is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse and has a dramatic location on a granite headland on the North Cornwall Coast within an SSSI and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The South West Coast path passes round the headland, passing through part of Cornwall's oldest mining areas. Sandy beaches at Whitesand Bay and Gwynver are close by.

You may be lucky enough to spot seals on the rocks below the lighthouse headland, as well as a variety of seabirds. With banks of seasonal pink thrift and golden gorse, the headland is a perfect location to watch the sun setting over the Atlantic.

You are reminded that Pendeen Lighthouse is an operational lighthouse and there is an electronic fog signal that operates automatically; ear plugs are provided in case conditions are misty.

While the cliff edge is protected by a 4' high wall, for safety we would ask that children must be supervised at all times.

Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.

Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Odd Nod is one of a small group of picturesque thatched cottages lying in the beautiful and peaceful hamlet of Coombe Keynes, a place mentioned in the Domesday Book. The cottage is grade II listed and tastefully restored. There is a south facing garden stretching out on to open farmland offering lovely views out over fields. There is great walking both around the cottage itself where hares, pheasants and deer can often be spotted, and owls heard. Coombe Keynes is just around three miles from Lulworth Cove with its sheltered pebble beach, and within easy range of the dramatic and beautiful Dorset coast including Durdle Door. Good country pubs abound nearby, while restaurants and cinemas can be found less than half an hour away in Dorchester and Wareham. A high quality modern barn conversion in an excellent unspoiled coastal position within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Apple Barn is situated at the head of a valley leading down to the estuary, with beautiful views to Salcombe and sunsets.

Several sandy beaches are within a 15-minute walk, or a few minutes' drive. Nearby car parks include the National Trust car park at Mill Bay. There are scenic walks in all directions from the property including spectacular sections of the South West Coast Path and a track leading down to Mill Bay and the Salcombe estuary. It is a fantastic location for those who love coastal walks, sailing and peace.

Salcombe is just a few minutes away from Mill Bay by ferry and has excellent restaurants, cafes, shops and holiday buzz. Various boat trips and boats for hire are available.

The new restaurant and bar at Gara Rock is a quarter of a mile from the property in a spectacular position overlooking the sea (open at least April-Sept). The villages of East Prawle and South Pool with their pubs, cafe and shop are within four miles, other village shops and farm shops are about 15 minutes' drive. The local market town of Kingsbridge is about 20 minutes and historic Dartmouth is 30 minutes away.

Hunters Moon details

Hunters Moon is a semi-detatched holiday property adjacent to Harvest Moon (DV126) in Feniton, Devon. The holiday rentals have been beautifully converted from a 400-year-old threshing barn, situated on a quiet, semi-working farm in the tiny hamlet of Curscombe. Surrounded by picturesque fields, Hunters Moon is in an ideal location for an outdoor break in Devon, where you can walk your dog, paddle in the stream or have a picnic. There are wonderful views, abundant birdlife, and wildlife including foxes, deer, badgers and hares are often spotted.

Places to visit in this part of Devon include the nearest beach at Sidmouth, just 10 miles away, with many other beaches within easy driving reach. For fossil enthusiasts, the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast is a 30 minute drive away.

The market town and antique centre of Honiton is only four miles away, boasting a variety of small independent shops along with the usual facilities. The village of Fenition, just 1 mile away down a country lane, has a post office and church. The nearest pub has a large beer garden bordered by the River Otter, sells good food and is just three miles away. There are many attractions in the area, with Exeter, Dartmoor, Exmoor and both coasts within easy reach for a day out.
