A multi award-winning exceptional Grade I listed fortified manor dating back to the 1400s that has undergone extensive renovation, bringing the two embattled Peele towers back into use for the first time in more than 300 years. Blencowe Hall sits on a bluff above the small river Petteril and is encompassed by its own gardens, grounds and fields incorporating access to the river. It has views to the nearby Lakeland fells and across the rolling Eden Valley.

Blencowe Hall is just over a mile's walk from the village of Greystoke which is dominated by Greystoke Castle and its 3,000 acre estate, accessible for public walks. Blencowe Hall is on the edge of the Lake District, about four miles from the Lake District National Park and seven miles from Ullswater. Close at hand is the Aira Force National Trust waterfall offering a scenic walk up to the peak of Gowbarrow Fell.

Accommodation overview: Waitby School was built on Waitby Fell in 1680 by James Highmore, a local to the area, for the children of Waitby and Smardale. About a mile and a half west of Kirkby Stephen, Waitby is said to have been an ancient market town, with a castle, chapel and cemetery, but no trace of either is now to be seen. However, the school remains, standing proud on the fellside and, having been purchased recently by another local family, has been lovingly restored, in conjunction with English Heritage, to offer luxurious holiday accommodation. The property stands alone and enjoys uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside, dotted with livestock and the occasional farmer and tractor at doin up time.

Melmerby Hall is a Grade II listed manor house nestling in the foothills of the North Pennines, one of 40 classified Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is set within its own sandstone walled grounds, which are entered through an arched gateway at the edge of the village.
The grounds include an archery lawn, walled vegetable gardens and a Victorian castle folly at the foot of the lawn (now converted to a children's play area). The forested grounds of 20 acres incorporate a small tributary of the River Eden with picnic area and stone barbecue by the stream.
The village of Melmerby is in the Eden Valley, lying between the Pennines and the Lake District, 12 miles from Ullswater and nine miles from the historic market town of Penrith.
There are a number of outstanding walks along the edge of the River Eden. One of England's largest Druidic stone circles - Long Meg and her Daughters - is also close by.
Melmerby is the home of the Egon Ronay award-winning organic village bakery which also serves fantastic meals and takeaway/coffee snacks. The Shepherds Inn at Langwathby, has good reviews for its food, service and friendly atmosphere.
Guests have access to a free swimming voucher programme with the Tower House indoor pool in the village of Melmerby which is a short walk from the property. The Tower House pool has a resistant current lap lane, a sauna and showers. Hause Hall Farm and The Cruik Barn are located part way up Hallin Fell at the south end of Ullswater in Martindale. They offer spectacular views over the fells and up into the hidden valleys of this secluded area of the LakeDistrict. Famous local author and fell walker A W Wainwrightdescribed the Ullswater lakeside walk which starts just at the baseof Hallin Fell as "the most beautiful and rewarding in Lakeland."
Hause Hall farmstead extends over several traditional lakeland stone buildings including the Grade II listed five bedroom, five bathroomfarmhouse and the adjoining two bedroom, two bathroom Cruik Barnwhich are linked across a traditional paved stone terrace. Accommodation overview: Sedbergh is set to the West of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the eastern fells of the Lake District, only 30 minutes drive from Windermere and is therefore ideal for exploring both areas of unspoilt and protected countryside. Sedbergh has a variety of narrow lanes and small clusters of old buildings including a 12th century Norman church (restored in 1886) and, overlooking the town, is the site of Castlehaw, an ancient motte and bailey castle. However Sedbergh has a new status, Book Town for England, and as such has a growing number of book shops, both new and second hand and is set to evolve over the coming months and years into a literary paradise.
