Bodnant Garden, the world famous garden owned by the National Trust, is central to the Estate and within one to two miles' walking distance from the properties. A perfect outdoor break, the Bodnant Estate is privately owned and guests are welcome to walk on the many miles of private paths that run through woods and across farmland. Bodnant Garden is open 361 days of the year.

There are many attractions and places to visit in this part of Wales. Within a 20-minute drive is the elegant Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno. Also the sandy beaches of Conwy, Penmaenmawr and Colwyn Bay are within about a 15-minute drive. Snowdonia National Park is on the doorstep, including the Swallow Falls near Betws-y-Coed and Snowdon. The summit of Snowdon can be reached via the mountain train from Llanberis. Llancayo Windmill is a recently renovated luxury self-catering holiday retreat situated approximately two miles north of the former market town of Usk in Monmouthshire. The mill was built in 1813 and destroyed by fire around 1830 and until four years ago had stood as a ruin.

Usk is conveniently located in the centre of Monmouthshire and the town itself has a castle, a rural life museum, the sessions house, a collection of old houses, a variety of restaurants, shops, public houses, hotels and other amenities associated with a vibrant rural town. Usk is also famous for its fishing and successes in the Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions.

Other attractions in this area include the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf, and Skirrid Fawr Mountains. An ideal location for an outdoor break in Monmouthshire, facilities available within a close proximity of Llancayo Windmill include cycling, rope climbing, pony trekking, hang gliding, canal boat hire, fishing and walking as well as having numerous award-winning restaurants nearby.

Cyplau details

Cyplau is a traditional 18th century granite and slate cottage clad in honeysuckle. Two gamekeepers' cottages were converted into a cosy, warm, welcoming property during the 1960s, hence the name Cyplau (pronounced cup-lie) which is Welsh for coupled.

Backed by ancient woodland, nature provides many delights; birds including osprey, bluebells, clean air, starlit nights, and fiery sunsets over the sea create a tranquil rural setting. In an elevated position on the edge of Llanbedr, it is only a five minute walk to traditional inns serving pub food, a restaurant and the village shops.

Glimpses of the sea can be seen from the bedroom windows. Beautiful safe, un-crowded sandy beaches are just a five minute drive away. Rock pools, a small harbour with an activity centre, sand dunes, numerous shells and a beach cafe provide families with days of fun, fishing and freedom. Cycles can be hired in the village, guided wildlife safaris on the beach or take a flight over Snowdonia from the local airfield.

Located in the Snowdonia National Park, it is an ideal base to discover hidden places on foot or in the car. There are easy and challenging walks directly from Cyplau onto the moors with panoramic views, historical sites, and rushing rivers. Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, is nearby and can be ascended on foot or by the famous mountain train.

There are many steam railways including the famous Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland lines. The Italianate village Portmeirion is an architect's dream with Mediterranean style gardens and excellent dining facilities. En route visit Harlech Castle, a World Heritage Site. Royal St David's golf course is 10 minutes' drive and the Centre for Alternative Technology, a nationally acclaimed environmental attraction, is 40 minutes' drive.

The property is situated high above the Eglwysbach valley, with fine pastoral views. It has many period features; two vaulted rooms, a two-storey room where the warmth of the animals was used to heat the farmhouse, exposed beams, wooden and slate floors, bread oven, etc. A separate annexe provides accommodation for two guests.
