Accommodation overview: Cyplau details
Cyplau is a traditional 18th century granite and slate cottage clad in honeysuckle. Two gamekeepers' cottages were converted into a cosy, warm, welcoming property during the 1960s, hence the name Cyplau (pronounced cup-lie) which is Welsh for coupled.
Backed by ancient woodland, nature provides many delights; birds including osprey, bluebells, clean air, starlit nights, and fiery sunsets over the sea create a tranquil rural setting. In an elevated position on the edge of Llanbedr, it is only a five minute walk to traditional inns serving pub food, a restaurant and the village shops.
Glimpses of the sea can be seen from the bedroom windows. Beautiful safe, un-crowded sandy beaches are just a five minute drive away. Rock pools, a small harbour with an activity centre, sand dunes, numerous shells and a beach cafe provide families with days of fun, fishing and freedom. Cycles can be hired in the village, guided wildlife safaris on the beach or take a flight over Snowdonia from the local airfield.
Located in the Snowdonia National Park, it is an ideal base to discover hidden places on foot or in the car. There are easy and challenging walks directly from Cyplau onto the moors with panoramic views, historical sites, and rushing rivers. Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, is nearby and can be ascended on foot or by the famous mountain train.
There are many steam railways including the famous Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland lines. The Italianate village Portmeirion is an architect's dream with Mediterranean style gardens and excellent dining facilities. En route visit Harlech Castle, a World Heritage Site. Royal St David's golf course is 10 minutes' drive and the Centre for Alternative Technology, a nationally acclaimed environmental attraction, is 40 minutes' drive.
