Set in the southern Cotswolds on the Gloucestershire borders, the cottage is peacefully located in the grounds of the stunning owners' home. The property is extremely convenient for the M4 (about 15 minutes away) and therefore is an ideal option for weekend breaks. Externally, the cottage is surrounded by open countryside, a private garden and a tennis court! Internally the owners have modernised this barn to a very high standard with all mod cons throughout creating a home which is sure to please the most demanding of tastes. (The radiators are amazing - you have to see them to believe them!!) An excellent choice for those looking to 'get-away' or to tour the southern Cotswolds and Bath region. It is believed that Brinkworth is actually the longest village in England and yet small at the same time with a population of approximately 1300. There are two public houses a few shops (within walking distance) as well as a church. There are more more shops and services to be found in Wootton Bassett, 3 miles away. Slightly further afield is Bath which is approximately 25 mins away, while the attractions of the Southern Cotswolds are all within an easy drive - including Cirencester, Tetbury (excellent for antiques) and Malmesbury.

Voted England's prettiest village, Castle Combe in the Cotswolds is the perfect destination should you wish to relax, walk and enjoy the slow pace of country life and yet it is only a short drive from the cosmopolitan cities of Bath and Bristol, each offering a fantastic array of shops, restaurants, theatres and bars.
This historic property, known as the Gates, is set in the very heart of the idyllic and popular village of Castle Combe. Little has changed since the 15th century with no street lights or TV aerials to detract from the village's ancient beauty. All the buildings are listed and nestled in the wooded Cotswold valley. The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking.
The position of the Gates could not be better; opposite the centrepiece of the village, the Medieval Market Cross. The property is positioned on the edge of the village churchyard with its attractive clock tower. Indeed, the gable wall in the property features a Gothic window originally from the church. Some parts of the house date back to Medieval times and most of the roof timbers are over 400 years old. In 2003 this holiday retreat was sadly devastated by fire but the building has been beautifully and sympathetically restored retaining all the character of the original structure yet offering attractive accommodation with excellent facilities.

Accommodation overview: Somerford Cottage is a quintessential English country cottage set in the heart of a beautiful and classic Cotswold village, itself located in the southern Cotswolds. The property, which has a history dating back hundreds of years, was once part of the village's Manor House, offers lovely large rooms throughout, all presented in an attractive and stylish fashion, with careful attention given to mixing contemporary furniture with traditional cottage features. Of particular appeal is the spacious living area, which is light, airy and inviting. As one would expect with a property of such history there are delightful, mature gardens, which customers can enjoy (see below*), in fact the owners are able to offer seasonal 'home grown produce' to customers - wonderful!! Locally, the village of Great Somerford is a thriving community with an excellent local shop and pub both within a 5 minute walk. We consider this holiday cottage as ideal for families or small groups who want to enjoy a traditional Cotswold location with good facilities nearby and good access to a wealth of local attractions. LOCATIONGreat Somerford (part of 'The Somerfords) is a traditional village situated in the southern Cotswolds, deep in the heart of Wiltshire's Clay Vale, sandwiched between the limestone belt of the Cotswolds and the chalklands of the Malborough Downs. Amongst a few 'claims to fame' is the fact that the village is believed to have the country's oldest allotment with notes of a private growing dating back to 1809! Nearby is the market town of Malmesbury, which has a beautiful church, with Tetbury. 15 mins drive, an antique collectors heaven a little further away. Westonbirt Arboretum, with its amazing walks and forests is within 2o minutes drive. Bath, in particular, is a convenient drive away as are a wide variety of Cotswold attractions and attractive villages.

The property has a private drive with electric gates and has ample parking. The grounds are lined with trees. There is a natural pond to the side of the property; this area is not for guest use and is fenced and safe for children.
There is plenty to see and do in this beautiful area of Wiltshire. The village of Gastard has a family-friendly pub which serves food and is just a five minute walk away. The historic town of Corsham, where peacocks wander freely through the streets, has a fantastic selection of shops, pubs and restaurants only 1.5 miles away.
