Southwold Denes - Southwold Denes stretches from Gun Hill to the harbour's mouth and acts as a vital sea defence for the town. Suffolk Coast and Heaths (to whom our customer's £1 booking donation goes) are working with several agencies to restore and maintain the important area. It is the home of skylarks and little terns (please be careful not to disturb the nests) and the habitat of sea holly, sea pea and bird's foot trefoil to name a few. Our properties here enjoy the sunrise over the sea and stunning sunsets over the marshes. Set deep in the midst of the Suffolk countryside, yet only a few miles from the A14, the A140 and the A12, Witnesham is a pleasant village with a popular pub, The Barley Mow and a fruit and vegetable wholesaler which also sells local eggs milk and fruit juice. (Both can be reached within a few minutes of The Old Stable.) Fynn Valley Golf Club, open to non-members, is nearby. Historic Ipswich with its theatres, shops, restaurants and frequent rail service to London, is four miles away and a good bus service from the village goes there and to some of the other mid Suffolk villages. The arable and grazing land around Manor Farm is now worked by a neighbouring farmer.
