Accommodation overview: Anvil Cottage was built in 1894 by a local blacksmith as a home for his family. This very attractive stone built cottage has recently been extensively renovated to a very high specification and now represents a luxuriously sleek boutique style accommodation in beautiful countryside setting. The accommodation comprises a superb fitted kitchen with built in fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and ceramic hob and oven. There is a breakfast area which seats four. The dining room, which faces south, has generous seating for four and overlooks the pretty landscaped cottage gardens. The lounge is light and airy and provides a warm, intimate atmosphere, with a lovely wood burning stove and deep soft leather suites. Upstairs the two large double bedrooms both enjoy south views over the expansive farming landscape of Moray, towards the imposing hills of Ben Rhinnes. The luxurious bathroom, with under floor heating, is finished throughout in porcelain tiling, and has an exceptionally large walk in shower. Originally a fishermans cottage, built at the height of the 19th century fishing boom, it has now been restored and converted to provide attractive and modern accommodation. Although on two floors, the main rooms are all on the ground floor. A steep staircase leads up to two small bedrooms. Accommodation overview: This delightful traditional fisherman's cottage is one of a terrace of three built in the unique local "gable to sea" style. The cottage is in a truly delightful setting just across the road from the waters of the Moray Firth, where dolphins play and fishing boats come and go. A short walk along this shoreline is a sandy beach and the Strathlene links golf course, while on the higher level of the village are local shops and inns.
Portessie is adjacent to the bustling deep sea fishing port of Buckie which has excellent facilities and is one of a string of picturesque old fishing villages, each with its own character and each worth visiting. All along the coast are links golf courses, sheltered beaches, rocky coves and spectacular cliffs, while inland are pretty little market towns set amidst fertile farmland, the Speyside Whisky Trail and the Aberdeenshire Castle Trail. Aberdeen and Inverness, both of which have international airports, are within an hour's drive. Outdoor activities include angling, bird watching, walking, cycling, golf and riding.
