Accommodation overview: Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland, standing at 1541 feet above sea level in the beautiful dramatic countryside of the Lowther Hills. Nearest shop 1 mile with further shopping in Thornhill.
Guests can enjoy wandering around the village which boasts the country's only Lead Mining Museum or try panning for gold at the Mennock centre - the gold here is approx 22.8 carats! There are some lovely walks in this outstanding hill-walking country and the Southern Upland Way passes nearby. Fishing in local rivers, golf, pony trekking, mountain biking and good country roads for cycling. Easy day trips can be enjoyed to the popular towns of Moffat, Dumfries and Ayr. Glasgow and Edinburgh are each 1 hour's drive.
