In association with Trinity House, Rural Retreats is pleased to present Valonia Cottage at Cromer Lighthouse The original Cromer Lighthouse was built in 1680 but the present lighthouse, a white octagonal tower, was built in 1833 and converted to automatic operation in 1990.
Valonia Cottage (with accommodation for six guests) is one of two semi-detached cottages at the lighthouse, which is a mile from the traditional North Norfolk town of Cromer. A 10 minute stroll along the coastal path or along the beach will take you into Cromer, where you can explore shops, pubs and sample local seafood - notably, the excellent Cromer crab sandwich. Cromer is a popular holiday destination for families, and has a long sandy beach with colourful beach huts. The pier has a theatre and cafe, and is home to the Cromer RNLI life boat - the station is open to the public. You can hire dipping nets and buckets on the pier - try to catch your own Cromer crab! There is an excellent sea-front cafe/restaurant at the lifeboat museum.
Taking the coastal path in the other direction is a short walk into Overstrand where you can then eat in the White Horse restaurant/bar.
Valonia makes a perfect Norfolk retreat for golfing breaks. The property is adjacent to the Royal Cromer 18-hole golf course where non-members with a handicap are welcome.
This lighthouse does not have a fog signal.
Access roads to some of the lighthouse sites are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.
Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Corrie's Cottage, with its beach themed interior, is just a short drive from some of the many attractions that North Norfolk has to offer. Sitting in approximately 2.5 acres of communal grounds and woodland of the Old Vicarage, Corrie's Cottage is just a short pleasant walk to the centre of this ever popular medieval village with its various tea shops, cafes, food pubs, art galleries, antique shops, post office and handmade chocolate and ice cream shop. There are award-winning places to eat, such as the Norfolk Riddle restaurant, its adjoining fish and chip shop and the Great Walsingham Barns, serving award-winning pies and amazing roast dinners. There is also a renowned local farm shop and butcher supplying excellent home grown produce.
This fun cottage has access to a pretty Victorian walled garden which is also the view from each of the three ground floor bedrooms. In addition there is also a good sized enclosed rear garden with an outdoor dining area, barbecue and, for those cooler evenings, a warming chimnea, ideal for toasted marshmallows. This cottage is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil meadow views where barn owls and oystercatchers are some of the many visitors who may be spotted.
Locally there are many places of historic interest, various cycle routes and an abundance of scenic walking, including the 20 acre grounds of Walsingham Abbey. A scenic trip on the world's longest narrow gauge steam train from Walsingham will bring you to Wells-next-the-Sea, popular for crab fishing at the quay and its huge sandy beaches with picturesque beach huts, dunes, pine forest, cafe and safe swimming for children.
