Customer reviews

Feedback from customers about Vanilla-Cottage-Usk-Monmouthshire includes:

"We have stayed in a lot of cottages and Vanilla was superior. We had a lovely time and we loved all the extras which made the cottage special such as the spa bath and the large TV the flowers wine and vodka and you had laid the table. We enjoyed the Big Pit Tintern and Monmouth and we enjoyed our walks with Bobby the west highland terrier. We were so impressed that we have rebooked - thank you so much!"

Mrs F, 06/12/2009 00:00

"The cottage was perfect and the little extras made a special treat. The cottage was very well equipped and so comfortable we didn't want to go out. The wine flowers and homemade fruit vodka was lovely. It was great to have a large TV with sky and a spa bath. The cottage was in a great spot for exploring the area we would definitely go back again and perfect for dogs."

Mrs F, 06/12/2009 04:01

"We had a lovely time - the cottage is so homely and it's got everything you need. The local people are friendly and we recommend the Castle Inn in Usk and the Chainbridge at the bottom of your road. Thank you for the flowers wine milk and fruit vodka and the whirlpool bath was a treat! We had a great week and Oscar the cat loved the walk round the cottage - we hope to return."

Mr F, 29/11/2009 00:00

"After months of ill health this break was exactly what we needed and boy do we feel better for it! Even the weather could not dampen our spirits. We have seen this wonderful part of the world in all seasons and never tire of its beauty. The cottage is so cosy a lovely comfy bed and homely touches. We loved the vodka nightcap - we must make it part of our bed time routine! Thanks for a warm welcome and ten out of ten for everything!"

Mr C, 13/11/2009 00:00

"Many thanks we have had a wonderful stay and the weather was gorgeous for October. We can recommend a trip to the Big Bit and Ironworks Raglan Castle is a must and we had a delicious lunch at the Foxhunter. The cottage is lovely with so many extras and really clean and welcoming and we loved the wood burner. We will certainly recommend you to family and friends!"

"A cosy little cottage set in very peaceful surroundings. A great place to relax and unwind. I've stayed in quite a few different cottages in the last few years and this one is by far the best equipped. We were welcomed by the owner who showed us around and explained various bits and pieces. There were some very nice personal touches such as a bottle of wine fresh flowers in every room and some blackcurrant vodka in the main bedroom! Plenty of places to visit in the area with some stunning scenery. Lot's of old castles (Usk Castle we found was particularly pleasant no entry fee just a donation pot. Nice views over Usk and sheep and chickens roaming free in the grounds. Our favourite day of the whole holiday was an hours drive out to the west to a place called Ystradfellte in the Brecon Beacons (Sat Nav useful here). Near there are a series of walks that take in four rather dramatic waterfalls. All the walks are well signposted so there's no real need for a map and a compass. However some sturdy walking boots are quite essential as the track can get rough and slippery in places. Best place to eat in our opinion was the Black Bear about a mile up the lane from the Cottage itself. The welcome we received there was very warm and friendly and the food first class and reasonably priced. The menu changes daily depending on what ingredients the chef brings with him! The only real minus point (despite the weather!) was the Chainbridge Inn. The only pub within easy walking distance this was a major part of the criteria for choosing the Cottage. On first impression a lick of paint some new signage and someone to mow the lawn would make it a whole lot more attractive! Being situated right next to the river Usk it has so much potential as a summer pub if only someone could be bothered to tidy it up a bit. Good food no complaints there. However the food last order times are very inconsistent and unreliable. Only minus point though!"

"We arrived to a very warm welcome from Malcolm and lots of homely touches including fresh flowers and the wine and the raspberry vodka (yummy). It has been a lovely relaxing week away from all the noise of town - it was so nice to wake up to the sound of the birds and not the traffic! It's the best equipped cottage that we've ever stayed in - thank you for such a relaxing week."
