The area is rich in history and is within easy reach of the Derwent Valley Mills world heritage site, Bakewell and Ashbourne, and the country houses of Chatsworth, Haddon and Hardwick. It makes a perfect base for walking in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by woods and valleys, with stunning views.
The well known Bear Inn is less than half a mile away, and you can walk across the fields, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding hills and woodland. The quirky, historic market town of Wirksworth is just two miles away, and has shops, pubs, a couple of very nice restaurants and several take-aways.
Dogs are welcome and there are beautiful walks right from the door. The owners have prepared detailed maps and directions for walks around the cottages, so you can find the prettiest footpaths and best views (and avoid cows and other hazards!)

There are two pubs in Bonsall, only a 10-minute walk up the hill from the property. Just over a mile away is Cromford, home of Sir Richard Arkwright, where there are a variety of shops and several pubs and places to eat.
From the property there are scenic footpaths/woodland walks, and within a 20-minute drive there are a variety of trails to suit all abilities. Many of the Peak District's popular towns such as Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock are within a 20-minute drive.

Sunnylea is a pretty limestone cottage, hidden away in a backwater, close to the centre of the typical 'White Peak' village of Great Longstone. Just four miles from the market town of Bakewell it is central to all the attractions of the Peak District.
There are countless opportunities for walking, cycling and climbing. Excursions might include Chatsworth, Haddon and Eyam Halls, the Castleton caverns and Buxton Opera House. The Monsal trail passes by less than half a mile from the village and numerous footpaths mean that you can walk from the door.
Local villages have fetes and flower festivals during the summer, and you will never be far away from tea and cake! When you return to Sunny Lea you might simply relax in the sunny south-west facing garden, or in the winter months in front of the open range.
Should you wish to eat out, the village has two pubs serving good food within a five minute walk. A 15 minute walk over the fields will take you to the Packhorse in Little Longstone, an unspoilt country pub, popular with walkers, which also serves good food.
