Accommodation
Nestling in the peaceful Dorset countryside, just 2 miles from the sandy beach at Lyme Regis, this attractive stone farmhouse stands in its own large and colourful garden, and has been refurbished to provide very comfortable family accommodation. Just a mile away is the village of Uplyme, with a post office/stores and a pub, while Lyme Regis offers shops, inns and restaurants. This attractive seaside resort enjoys a dramatic setting with high cliffs and landslips on either side of the town. Its handsome harbour, known as The Cobb, was built in the 18th-century, and found fame as the film setting for John Fowles’ French Lieutenant’s Woman. The area is also renowned for its prehistoric fossils, revealed in the falling cliffs, and many are displayed in the local museum and on sale in the local fossil shops. There are motor boats for hire, and fishing, sailing, wind-surfing and golf can also be enjoyed. The towering cliffs stretch westwards for miles, offering some exhilarating walks on the coastal path, and at Weston Mouth they are pitted with caves, many of which were once used by smugglers. At Seaton an electric tramway, which runs 6 miles up the Axe Valley to Colyton, is said to be the only one in the world where open-topped tramcars are still used on a regular commercial basis. Within easy reach are several historic buildings, including Loughwood Meeting House (NT), Parnham House and the beautiful Forde Abbey, with its abbot’s hall, cloisters and huge gardens. Less than an hour away is the historic city of Exeter, the ‘capital’ of the south west. The impressive cathedral with its magnificent vaulted roof, houses an elaborate medieval clock and some delightful wood carvings, among them the one-eyed cathedral cat. There is excellent shopping, as well as an art gallery, and a Maritime Museum home to the world’s biggest boat collection. Shops 1 mile. Well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen, open-plan to dining room. Attractive sitting-room with wood-burning stove in inglenook fireplace. Cloakroom with toilet. Utility room. First floor: Master double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Second double bedroom. Two twin bedrooms. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.
