Rural Retreats is delighted to offer you The Mews Cottage, one of three holiday cottages on the magnificent Bonython Estate, under five miles south of Helston on the northern part of the Lizard Peninsula. The Cottage has been renovated to a 5-star standard, beautifully furnished, set within its own private courtyard and adjoining St Corantyn Cottage . The layout of the property has been designed with great thought and style.
Bonython Estate Gardens, which guests are welcome to explore, comprises some 20 acres with a recently renovated walled garden and potager and a hidden valley with three small lakes. The gardens are rated as one of 'The Great Gardens of Cornwall' and given a star in the 'Good Garden Guide'. Bonython Estate is a traditional, mixed agricultural Cornish estate with ancient manor, farm and woodland stretching almost from one side of the Peninsula (the Helford River) to the other (the beach at Poldhu Cove) with both shores just over a mile away.
The Estate is close to the amenities of the small towns and villages nearby.Perfectly placed for exploring the beautiful coves and coastal pathways, the majority now owned by The National Trust, The Lizard offers that special unspoilt mix of Cornish magic with world-renowned beaches such as Kynance Cove and Kennack Sands and numerous fishing villages such as Coverack, Cadgwith and Mullion, famous for Cornish crab and lobsters! Apart from the truly outstanding natural beauty (the estate abuts the Lizard National Park), other attractions include the lighthouse station on Lizard Point (true southernmost tip of the British Isles) and Goonhilly's Earthstation, with the largest satellite dishes in the Northern Hemisphere. Accommodation overview: A charming semi-detached traditional stone cottage in a sheltered, well kept, lawned garden in the quiet hamlet of Brill near Constantine. Comfortably and attractively furnished, the cottage is approached by a sloping driveway and half a dozen granite steps that lead up to the front door.
The accommodation consists of a warm and cosy sitting room of great character with a beamed ceiling and exposed stonework on one wall, and a door to one side opens to a ground floor bedroom with twin beds. At the rear of the property in an extension to the original cottage, one step leads up to a compact kitchen / diner with maple effect fitted units, a pine dining suite and a quarry tiled floor, and at the far end, one step leads down to a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath.
A rather narrow pine open-tread staircase leads up from the sitting room to two further bedrooms with peaceful views over the village cricket field to countryside beyond, with a single and king size double bed respectively, all with electric blankets. A door from the kitchen leads out to the secluded rear garden, with a gravel patio area and a couple of steps up to an enclosed level lawn with mature flower beds and a side gate leading to the front drive.
The elderly may find it easier to access the property via the rear where there are just 2 steps. The village of Constantine, about one mile away, has a church, small shops and a pub and Falmouth, with a wider selection of amenities, several beaches and the National Maritime Museum is five miles away.
Please note: Three electric radiators and two oil filled heaters provides the heating for this property (inclusive).

Accommodation overview: This attractive comfortable and welcoming stone cottage is in the middle of the fishing village, about 75 yards from the harbour and adjacent to a millstream which runs through a neighbour's garden.
Entered by a stable door directly from the road, there is a beamed, newly fitted kitchen with a slate floor and pine dining area. The sitting room with a window seat set into a bay over the stream, has a stone fireplace with coal effect fire. At the rear of the cottage is a hall / cloaks area and a bathroom W.C. with hand basin, shower over the bath and heated towel rail.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with two single beds, the other a double has an en-suite W.C. and basin. Slightly set apart from the cottage, a sunny patio garden at the rear has a bench seat, however pets will require supervision outside. The cottage is not suitable for toddlers. Although narrow cars may be unloaded outside, the village car park is at the top of the hill. The shops, inns and restaurants are all close at hand.
Please note: Bed linen is available at £10 per double & £5 per single to be paid on arrival. Towels are not available. A weekly parking ticket currently costs £28 in the council car park, or £18 in Trewetha Lane car park, a slightly longer walk.

Accommodation overview: Only three miles from the beautiful beach at Porthcurno, also home to the renowned open-air Minack Theatre, this traditional grade II listed terraced cottage is set in the quiet village of St Buryan.
Approached through a pretty little walled and gated garden, the front door opens to an entrance porch with coat pegs and an inner door leads directly into a warm and cosy sitting/dining room with a beamed ceiling, a large granite hearth housing the stove and a window overlooking the hedged front lawn. Beyond the living room, a short hallway gives access to a neatly fitted kitchen with rustic pine units and a low doorway, and a back door opens to the sheltered rear garden.
A rather steep and narrow carpeted staircase leads up to a small landing, a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath and a pine furnished double bedroom with scatter rugs on the rustic wood floorboards, some exposed granite stone and wooden shutters across the double glazed windows. There is unrestricted roadside parking outside the cottage and the village pub and general store/P.O. are only a two minute walk away.
The golden sands at Sennen, Lands End, Lamorna Cove, Mousehole and Penzance are all within a 5 mile radius, and St Ives is also within easy reach. The dramatic south west coast path has stunning views across the sea and a scenic circular bus route follows the coastal road around West Penwith. There is also a ferry service from Penzance to the Isles of Scilly.

Burton Bradstock acts as one of themain gateways to the Jurassic Coast which has recently been declared a World Heritage Site, and the South West Coast Path.
Hive beach, made up of shingle and surrounded by spectacular sandstone cliffs, is only a half mile walk. The local seafood restaurant, The Beach Cafe, sits on the shingle beach of Chesil Bank and has wonderful views of the Dorset coastline.

Accommodation overview: Mere Coach House is a simply stunning! A large, detached house located down a long drive on the edge of the premium (and quite famous) Cotswolds village of Fairford, it offers just about everything you could wish for when looking for an exclusive holiday home. Inside, the owners have created a very welcoming and stylish yet quirky home with large rooms throughout and four fabulous bedroom suites, each with bathrooms. From our perspective, we found the kitchen/diner the real heart of the house, warm and inviting with its huge Aga, and enjoying superb views across the private gardens and paddock beyond, both of which are perfect for children (and adults of course!) to play ball games. This is one for the family, it is also one for friends too given it's superb layout and location in this historic village. There is little not to like in this house, so we're quite certain you will have a fabulous and memorable holiday here. Accommodation overview: Just 2 miles inland from the beautiful sandy beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay on the North Cornwall Coast, this attractive semi detached period cottage is situated in a peaceful location on the edge of the village of Marhamchurch. Situated in a little cluster of cottages set at the end of a long unmade lane, the property offers a perfect base for exploring the spectacular coastline nearby with the dramatic South West Coast Path and stunning beaches just a 10 minute drive.
A stable door opens under heavy blooms of wisteria in summer, directly into a useful entrance porch with coat pegs on the wall and the original low front doorway leads into a small lobby. On the left, one step leads down to a neatly fitted kitchen with the original slate flagstones and on the opposite side of the lobby, one step leads up to a charming beamed dining room with pine furniture and an electric log effect fire in the hearth.
Beyond, in an extension to the original cottage, a doorway leads through to a warm and cosy sitting room with a beamed ceiling and comfortable lounge seating next to a Cornish stone fireplace with a log effect electric fire. To complete the ground floor accommodation, a door in one corner of the dining room opens to a walk-in shower room W.C. with small hand basin and heated towel rail.
A rather steep and narrow carpeted staircase leads up from the lobby to the first floor landing and three pretty cottage-style bedrooms all with washbasins; there is a double bedroom, a twin bedded room and one with a single bed. A stable door opens from the sitting room to an enclosed patio that provides a lovely sun trap and visitors are welcome to make use of the shared lawned garden surrounding the cottages reached by half a dozen steps. There is on-site parking for one car adjacent to the cottage.
The seaside resort of Bude with its golden sandy beaches, selection of shops and restaurants,and a leisure pool is approximately 2 miles by road. It is possible to walk or cycle to Bude along the scenic canal footpath passing through farmland and a nature reserve, surfing,fishing, golf and horse riding are also available locally. The picturesque villages of Boscastle, Tintagel and Clovelly are all within half an hour’s drive.
