The cottage is centrally heated and the living flame fire in the lounge is warm and inviting. Situated on the Georgian street of Frenchgate, now a cul-de-sac, the cottage was once a sweet shop but has been lovingly restored and refurbished to a particularly high standard. A reconstruction of it when it was a Victorian grocers shop (and the birthplace of John Fenwick founder of the department stores that carry his name) can also be seen in the Richmond Museum.
